INTRACT - Stumbleupon

Revisiting Yesterday
In the linen white sheets
All draped and drawn
Amongst the folds
That line the lawn
In the leaves
In groves laden with fawn
In meadows and pastures
And forests long overgrown
In the rivers rushing
Cold and blue
In the trees
For that matter to
In the valleys that run
And lilies in blossom
Among the hills
That saunter and sway
In dreams that i visited
Just yesterday.
Kevin Harling.

Cakespy::Ice Dreams: Ruminations on the Ice Cream Cone Cupcake
I wish all this would have been around during my room mom and soccer mom days! These are just great, especially with the rough and tumble boys who were often in my charge playing with my son, things just seem to fly out of their little hands but the cone makes it easier to get a good grip!
A great idea with all the details on site :)

Cloud Gate: Chicago On Amazing Bean/ Sooth Brush

"Cloud Gate is a public sculpture by Anish Kapoor in Millennium Park, Chicago. The sculpture is shaped like an ellipse, and its legume-like appearance has caused it to be nicknamed The Bean. It is made of 168 highly polished stainless steel plates, and stands at 33 feet high, 66 feet long, and 42 feet wide, weighing 110 tons."

I followed Two2Travel here and wow, these are so intriguing!!

Beautifully filmed this movie handles the delicate but predictable dilemma all people who are descendants of survivors eventually face...the journey to their parents homeland.
Thanks for this, Alexandre :)

Cultcase: Four Contemporary Art Projects Exploring Women

4 Contemporary Art Projects Exploring Women: Heroic. Liberated. Classic. Erotic.
I am posting this to feature the project I have photos of, "JR: Women Are Heroes"; the others aren't my taste (in fact perhaps even tasteless, I might add.)
"JR: Women Are Heroes"
"Through the portraits of women for whom crime and violent loss of loved ones are part of everyday life, French photographer JR tells the story of brave modern women, testifying of their force, courage and noble struggle to exist in Kenya, South-Sudan, Sierra-Leone, Liberia and recently Favela da Providencia - the first squatter camp of Rio de Janeiro and the most dangerous and deadly of all Favelas.
Using a special technique, portraits are printed to large over sized posters and then pasted on the various parts of the neighborhood with the help of the community, including buildings, stairways and large asphalt spans. While each photo reflects a particular woman's expression, the overall outcome is as a spectacular thought provoking mixture of earth, urban structures and people into a single slowly vanishing face."

The French Ban on TV for Children Under Three

"Watching television can slow the development of children under 3, even when it involves channels aimed specifically at them."
-Excerpt from the page, the rest is interesting too.
I would be inclined to agree with this. I can't believe I agree with the French government on something!!

amnesta.net: Photos of Europe - May-June 2002 by Tim Darling

An engaging blog I enjoyed immensely; lots of photos of many beautiful countries all over the world here!
In his own words:
"These are the photographs and travel journal of a month I spent riding the rails around Europe in the spring of 2002.
My travels took me through the colorful lands and cities of France, Spain, Tangier, Italy, Prague, Budapest, Copenhagen, and Sweden. Along the way, I met all kinds of interesting people on the trains, in the hostels and pensions, and sometimes just in the street as I wandered around with my camera.
So flip through the photographs and (if you like) read about how I met a girl on my first day in Paris and caught up with her again 4 weeks later in Sweden and in between was threatened by a crowd of angry Moroccans in Tangier and set my facial hair on fire in Prague.."
Much more on his site/blog.

Avril Paton - Glasgow Portfolio

The detail fascinates.....
"Avril Paton, who was born in Glasgow in 1941 during the wartime blitz is the daughter and grand-daughter of Hugh and Donald Paton who were both landscape painters on the Isle of Arran. Mardi Gillies, her mother, met and married Hugh when they were both attending Glasgow School of Art in the late thirties." From the page with a lot more there.

Design Blog - Experimental Summer Home at Hardanger Reflects Designing Genius

"Experimental Summer Home at Hardanger reflects designing genius"
Not sure that I agree completely but this would make for a fun weekend with a significant other...although design wise I think my step-dad created a cuter version for him and my mom to enjoy their beautiful garden on rainy days. I need to scan the photos I do have but in fairness, it is smaller, but awfully cute!

Tastorama::Cheese Pie

I was going to keep moving but this really looks good, another version of what Greek, Armenians and other Middle-Eastern cultures know as cheese boerek.....delicious!
This recipe looks a lot easier than the traditional one I use which really requires a lot of precision and tending to and yet looks just as delicious :)))

Thanks, Mercurial Me :)

Merci! Gerard :)

Living Art in Laguna Beach

Lori Shepler / Los Angeles Times
Living Pictures in Laguna Beach
"For 75 years the Festival of Arts in Laguna Beach has been reproducing notable paintings, sculptures and prints as "living pictures" using actors, perspective-crunching sets and illusion-creating make-up. The theme of this year's Pageant of the Masters is "All the World's a Stage." Here Steve Bergjans prepares for his role in Daniel Maclise's 1842 watercolor "The Play Scene in 'Hamlet'."
